6 Pack Project

This is my 6 pack of beer project, rightfully named Tan Man. I am disappointed I could not get a photo of the fully assembled product because I feel like these printouts do not do it justice. Either way Rusty did not get a chance to see these before I printed them out so we will see what he thinks. This was actually a fun design for me and I wish I could of worked on it more. I like where it is going and think it could be turned into a pretty good design once looked over by Rusty.

Rapala Ad

This is my Rapala ad. This one was different because even though it was an ad, it was very text heavy. The trouble I had with this one was photography. Being stuck in Kirksville I did not have the best images to shoot. Rusty helped me with it though and it turned out alright I think for the lack of photos.

Wick Fowler's

Poster

Can Label

This is my Wick Fowler's Project. This one I spent a lot of time with concepts, and in the end did not even use it for my portfolio. So that was kind of upsetting. I really like how the can label turned out and Rusty must of too since he approved it. I also like where the poster was headed, I wish I could of completed the series and got them all approved.

Final Portfolio

So here we are at the end of the semester. I just want to start this entry off by saying this was the most grueling project I have ever done, and I don't mean that as an exaggeration. I've spent a stupid amount of time on it and haven't slept since Saturday night. This was even worse than the triangle project for me, at least with the triangle project it was a single thing I needed to get done and it was a set task. This project fought me the entire way.  I also want to point out that not everything in here has been approved. I had planned to get them approved the Monday before the final but Rusty decided he needed to go see a concert. But Rusty said just upload them anyways and point out which ones weren't approved, so hopefully he likes them. That being said I got it done at least and it feels good. So without further wait, here is my final portfolio.

How Safe Food Spread

 Stress Article

Jazz Poster

These 3 designs were from my midterm portfolio. I thought these were my best designs and I am actually fairly proud of them. All the rest of the information about them can be found under them in my midterm portfolio

Study Abroad Booklet

So here is my study abroad booklet that I finally got done. Rusty has never seen the final version of it so lets hope he likes it. I choose this one because even though it is not my favorite design, it was one of the most complicated ones, and I feel like their are some pretty good spreads in it. I tried to keep the spreads simple because I figured functionality was key and I didn't want to over design it. I also went under budget on this but that is most likely because Rusty did not have a chance to not pick it to hell. After prepping for print my total time was only about 18 hours. Which seems way under budget when the time alloted was 45. So here it is Rusty, enjoy.

Ramen Noodle

So this is the Ramen Noodle layout. This one was approved by Rusty and I think is my best design. For some reason I figured out what I wanted to do with this one right away, and when I executed it, it came together just as I wanted it to, which is a problem sometimes. The only problem I had with this one is the recipes on the side, which Rusty helped me take care of. I did good with my budget on this one. The time budgeted was 7 hours and I ended up with 5 hours and 45 minutes. Like I said this one just came together well so I feel like going under budget on this one was good and my design did not suffer.

Society of Illustrators Self Mailer

This one is the self mailer as the title states. This one was approved by Rusty with some moderate alterations if I am not mistaken. I am actually really happy with this design, but that my be partly because I am biased towards the illustration I used. The illustration was a print I had already done so that saved a lot of time. This is one of favorite prints and I felt I would fit the poster well. I am pleased how the  information side of the poster came out too. I liked how the texture from the print looks repeated and the colors are subtle. I felt like I handled the text in a simple but effective manner. Printing this one was a bitch though considering its size and folding. Time budgeted was 8 hours but I only had 6 hours considering the easy illustration find. I would have been more under budget if it wasn't for the printing shenanigans.

Dust Cover and Audio CD
This is my dust cover and audio CD for Lord of the Flies. Rusty has never seen this one so it is going be a nice little surprise for him. I choose Lord of the Flies because it was the only book I had read out of the ones allowed. I also choose this on though because I am disappointed with the way the HP printed it. The HP printed it as almost being a solid murky black in the background, but really there is a fair amount  of subdued detail going on in the background that I am proud of. I played around with the text and flies until I came to a layout I was happy with. I'm sure Rusty has some changes he would like seen with it, but I really do like the dark, grungy, simplistic look of it. This one I probably would have went over budget with if Rusty had gotten a hold of it. The time alloted was 15 hours and considering I was rushed in the end this project still took me 12 hours after assembly. Assembly by the way was a shit storm, I kept having problems with the CD template and screwed up cutting in spots. I would have reprinted it and tried again if I had the chance,
